I have worked with oceana privately for over two years.  During that time both my body and my spirit have benefited enormously. She is gentle, focused, knowledgeable, clear and unaffected.  I have studied with many yoga instructors and Oceana stands out for her lack of egotism, lack of righteousness, for her lightness, humor, encouragement, dedication and mostly, her acceptance of her own practice and those she supports.

I say this with utmost sincerity.  In you I've found an amazing guru.   Your attentiveness and warmth make going to class a true pleasure.   I am always impressed by your instincts and how you seem to answer any questions I might have before I have a chance to ask them.  Your guidance and clear dedication to your practice have inspired me to delve deeper into my own and to learn more about yoga and its many facets.  Thank you Oceana, for being a great teacher.

As a more senior practitioner of yoga (in age but not experience) I am amazed at how much I have been able to progress in my practice through Oceana's gentle touch and firm direction.  Many yoga teachers are hesistant to correct "older" practioners and some, in my experience, are downright ageist.  But Oceana is able to connect with young and old, experienced and inexperienced, because of her ability to describe and demonstrate postures and positioning in a clear and non-threatening manner.  And magically, it all flows together so well that you don't hesitate, even through the more challenging postures.

I have been practicing regularly for 6 years and have found Oceana's classes to be among my favorites.  She has a knack for leading the room through an intense yet calming practice that leaves me feeling like I was at my best for the last hour and a half.

Oceana is an incredible yoga teacher.  She brings a combination of strength, gentleness and knowledge to her classes.  Her soft-spoken voice and clear instructions help students of all levels -- including those of us with old injuries -- move through the yoga positions with correct alignment and ever-growing capacity.  Her classes bring joy to body and spirit.

Last summer my mom and I spent an amazing weekend with Oceana practicing yoga on an island in Maine. I had always admired Oceana's style as a yoga teacher but realized that I connected with her as a friend on the long ride up. I cherish the weekend because Oceana brought more than just yoga expertise; she is genuine, serene, and caring, which makes practicing yoga with her feel efforless.

Not only was Oceana the single most important influence in my pregnancy and childbirth experience (not counting the hubbie, that is), but she also remains the single most powerful influence on my spiritual life here in the city. That's the hardest thing to put into words, though - the spiritual side of practice. Maybe some of it will peek through the more practical side. My introduction to yoga happened while I was pregnant. Oceana was unique among my various teachers in her ability to really challenge folk who maybe didn't look so challengeable, while keeping compassion for what we were feeling at a given moment on a given day. She was so keenly aware of the specific physical challenges of pregnancy that I felt safe under her watchful eye, with the little reminders so familiar from dancing about breath and posture suddenly made fresh by her. I always feel that in her class - that disarming combo of being challenged and protected at once. I've studied under that watchful eye for two years now, and I've made a great deal of headway since that first big-bellied yoga class, largely because she took the time to train me right - to be mindful, to be slow and deliberate and careful and rigorous about looking out for my own body. Maybe what strikes me most is her ability to vocalize a kind of rhythm of minute adjustments (always coinciding with just the place you happen to be neglecting) while maintaining the flow of the movement as a whole. She gets in a zone where each move seems entirely spontaneous and at the same time totally logical and in tune with what your body wants to do next. She never seems to have to work to keep consistency between the timing of each side of the body, or to have to work to create a harmonious sequence of vinyasas leaving you feeling balanced. In fact, when she's in that groove you never get much of a sense of effort at all - it's this magical, effortless teaching. Impeccable musical taste is the cherry on top.
