Oceana was born on a farm in Northern California and raised in San Francisco; she moved to NYC to attend Barnard College, from which she graduated with a BA in English. Certified through OM Yoga Center, Oceana is greatly influenced by the Ashtanga and Iyengar traditions, and by the direct teachings of Shiva Rea and Rodney Yee.

Oceana teaches challenging, creative yoga sequences to center the attention on the breath, but she grounds this joyful, flowing practice with an emphasis on alignment. While she gives precise instructions and assists in each posture, Oceana encourages her students to move beyond their physical practice.

Though yoga can increase the balance, strength and flexibility in our bodies, it can also help cultivate these qualities in our hearts and minds, teaching us patience and compassion for ourselves, and ultimately for others.  When we deepen our awareness--aligning our attention and intention with our breath and body--we can glimpse, for a moment, our true and highest nature, which is, unequivocally, perfect. In this way, yoga helps unify our bodies, hearts and minds, keeping us humble, open and full of joy.

She teaches group classes and private clients of all ages and levels.  She is also certified and experienced in prenatal/postpartum yoga, and has worked with many women throughout their pregnancies and deliveries.

In addition, Oceana is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a practicing holistic health counselor. She has also completed Level 1 training in Reiki and Thai Yoga MAssage.
